Compare the ways in which Wordsworth presents London in Upon Westminster Bridge with Blakes view of London in his poem London

London, the best spot you would ever dream of or the most exceedingly awful bad dream? London in 1700's was an alternate city, they didn't have vehicles rather than that they had ponies, there was less contamination and less streets. Individuals used to wear increasingly formal garments. In this bit of coursework I am going to analyze ‘London' by William Blake and ‘Upon com/in-westminster-monastery examination/>Westminster Bridge' by William Wordsworth. William Wordsworth used to live on open country, he just considered the to be side of London as William Blake lived in London and saw the reasonable world. Blake just has seen the negative side of London. At the point when you are looking from the extension you can have a decent diagram and the awful side about looking from the scaffold is that you can't see the subtleties since you are separations. Wordsworth visit London toward the beginning of the day and in a large portion of the nation's in the first part of the day everything hushes up in light of the fact that the city is sleeping. Wordsworth had a tragic life since when he was around 8 years his mom passed on, and when he was 13 his dad kicked the bucket, when he visited London that could be a runaway from issues that he may have and have the option to disregard the pitiful minutes. He likewise may feel that he isn't overruled by another person, he could feel free. Both of the sonnets are about London however them two got diverse foundation. Blake see the negative side when he composed ‘Blasts the new-brought into the world Infant's tear' by this statement we can tell that each one live with a dread. Each youngster that was brought into the world must have an awful life in light of the fact that in those occasions they mum's strength been a whore provided that a ladies needs cash she had the option to sell herself since she couldn't get a superior line of work. The needy individuals couldn't be taught. Destitute individuals in their occasions would be consistently poor. As Wordsworth seen just the great side of London however he never lived there so how might he rate London when he visits it just a single time? ‘The excellence of the morning: quiet, exposed, ships, towers, arches, theaters and sanctuaries' by this statement we can see that he had composed the sonnet toward the beginning of the day when everyone is going to wake up. He tells the path through his eyes or envisions it, he isn't sensible. The word ‘tear' could be a tear of joy just as of pity. William Blake was an individual that firmly was enthusiasm for religions. In the principal refrain he rehashes himself twice, once by utilizing â€Å"charter'd†. This shows he is discussing the characters of individuals; he considered this to be looting common individuals of their privilege and opportunities. The second redundancy he utilized was the word â€Å"marks†. This has a two sided connotation one of them could be that the physical harms that are being made and leaving marks in everyone brains and they can't forget about it. The other importance could be that he is gathering confirmations as he strolls around. Blake's sonnet is brimming with negative words that he utilized in each refrain, for example, â€Å"blood†, â€Å"weakness†, â€Å"cry† and some more. The sonnet closes with words â€Å"marriage hearse† for everybody marriage is such an incredible thing however he contrasted it with burial services. This may demonstrates that he likes to be desolate. William Wordsworth utilized his creative mind when he was composing the sonnet just as being on the scaffold and seeing the practical world. He composed something that cant occurs in sensible world, â€Å"The magnificence of the morning† â€Å"like a garment†, the city can't be wearing garments, yet it's now dressed itself naturally. Wordsworth utilized rundown to depict the things he was seeing. He doesn't just show positive language in line 1, 9 and 11 he utilized negative language. The vast majority of the lines contain positive language words like â€Å"bright†, â€Å"glittering†, â€Å"splendour† and â€Å"glideth† make a mysterious world that is resembling it phony and ridiculous. The sonnet is composed as a work which doesn't simply show love yet it shows the artists love for London. The normal number of syllables in each line is 10. William utilizes this since it recommends that he doesn't need anything to change in London. The sonnet is quiet and quiet. Proof for this is ‘never sunned all the more perfectly steep'. This shows London was a wonderful spot, quiet, and a ton of wide open probably won't have numerous structures around. William Wordsworth expounds on what he can find toward the beginning of the day when he remains on Westminster Bridge. ‘The magnificence of the morning' is proof for this. It is written in the third individual and is likewise in the current state. This shows it was occurring as he was composing the sonnet. This likewise causes the peruser to envision what's going on and to comprehend the sonnet more. The sestet is about how the writer feels. Proof for this is ‘Ne'er saw I, never felt, quiet so profound'. It is in the first individual and is mostly in the past tense, he shows positive language. Blake's organization of the sonnet resembles verses of a tune. There are four verses, every one of them shows diverse part of the city. Each and every refrain discusses something different. His sonnet resembles previews of heaps of various scenes. As I would like to think both of the poetess have option to offer their own input, similar to each person. William Blake indicated the awful side of London and Wordsworth the great side, them two has option to show the distinctions each individual got various perspectives for specific things. Blake was demonstrating the negative things to show what drives him mad as Wordsworth has made his sonnet quiet and pleasant for everybody.

This paper centers around 2 significant impacts on their work esteems, perspectives, and practices; the impacts of their families and their work understanding. Guardians and educators have generally upheld this work. They feel that this will diminish high school estrangement, increment duty, and facilitate the change from youth to adulthood (Greenberger and Steinberg, 1986). Before, it has been hard to explore the work propensities for youthful laborers for 2 reasons. The clench hand is the propensity of modern/authoritative brain research to just examination all day laborers in enormous associations. This can give deficient and indistinct examination on the grounds that these investigations do exclude low maintenance workers. The second is the overemphasis of family impacts. While this is significant, the investigation of early work encounters, and their impact on a youthful workers’ demeanor, qualities, and practices, can be similarly as significant as youth encounters on similar variables. Political Economy Executive Powers, Russia And Japan Essays

Political Economy: Executive Powers, Russia And Japan Outline of Powers Inside the constitution of a country, powers are assigned to specific foundations of that country's administration. Despite the fact that as a rule comparative, countries can shift radically when characterizing the authoritative structure from which they work. Some fair constitutions delegate more capacity to the official branch while in different countries more force is given to the council. This point can be delineated when a similar part of a country's administration is contrasted and that of another. A case of varying official forces can be seen between the Russian Federation and Japan. Japan's majority rule government was created by General Macarthur close by U.S. occupation specialists after WWII. It is that of a run of the mill parliamentary framework, comparable from multiple points of view to those of Europe. The head administrator is chosen by the individuals from the Diet, or parliament, and serves until the person in question misfortunes the certainty of the House of Representatives or until the multi year term is up (Palmer 264). The Russian majority rule government came about 50 years not far off. At the point when socialism at last fell in the Soviet Union, a mainstream consider under Gorbachev joined force under a new, vote based system. His name was Boris Yeltsin. He set up another constitution, in light of the Constitution of France, that gave numerous proper forces to the official branch. It takes into account a double official; a president and a head administrator. The president is the president of the military and is enabled to manage by declaration in a highly sensitive situation (Palmer 334). He is likewise integrated with the administration with the ability to name and expel different administrators and office heads from office. He designates a head administrator and must favor the Cabinet. Conduct Comparison From 1955 to 1993, Japan's governing body, or House of Representatives, was commanded by the Liberal Democratic Party. This implied the leader of the gathering was ensured to become executive. That component ought to have guaranteed the workplace of executive to be one of the most grounded of that of the First World. Rather, it was among the most fragile (Palmer 264). The capacity of Japan's PM is fundamentally the same as that of Russia's. Be that as it may, the intensity of the official branch in Russia dwells in the workplace of the president. He designates the head administrator and must support the individuals from the bureau (Palmer 334). The president, under the Yeltsin Constitution, has direct command over the significant procedures of government. Not a great deal completes without the president's endorsement (Palmer 335). As opposed to Russia's official branch, Japan's head administrators during this period burned through the vast majority of their effort attempting to keep the accord between rival groups inside the decision party. Rather than having full control, with everything meeting his endorsement, the principle capacity of the Japanese leader is to bargain or to square strategy activities originating from various authoritative organizations or incredible business interests. The vast majority of these activities originate from Japan, Inc, a collusion between political, business, and regulatory pioneers who share one shared objective, financial development (Palmer 265). The accomplishment of a leader depended on his capacity to expedite between the diverse party groups, instead of the Russian president who creates and directs arrangements. In the official part of the two nations, there is a head administrator who dwells over the Cabinet where the top services figure and talk about approach. In Russia, rather than Japan, the presence of a president subverts the leader. The Cabinet reports legitimately to that office and everything must meet his endorsement (Palmer 335). Conversely, Japan's head administrator, just as top Cabinet individuals, must be in help if an arrangement will be placed into impact (Palmer 265). Accordingly, despite the fact that there is no amazing presidential hand helping things along in Japan, the last word despite everything sits with the head administrator and the Cabinet. One might say that Japan needs solid, conclusive initiative, and that Russia's official branch, with the president as the mental pioneer of the individuals, is prevalent. However it is Russia's economy that is falling apart. In expansion, in spite of that ground-breaking office, Russia despite everything needs the agreement it doesn't need to change strategy. Taking everything into account, regardless of the debilitating

The Tragedy of Permanence in Nightwood - Literature Essay Samples

In the chapter â€Å"Go Down, Matthew† of Nightwood by Djuna Barnes, Dr. Matthew O’Connor, speaking to an ex-priest at the Cafà © de la Mairie du Vie after an extensive and exhausting session of consoling a lamenting Nora Flood, relates himself and the ex-priest to ducks in Golden Gate park. In inebriated exasperation, he proceeds to complain: â€Å"†¦[E]verybody with their damnable kindness having fed [the ducks] all the year round to their ruin because when it comes time for their going south they are all a bitter consternation, being too fat and heavy to rise off the water [†¦] how they flop and struggle all over the park in autumn, crying and tearing their hair out because their nature is weighted down with bread and their migration stopped by crumbs† (160). Though the doctor does not seem to be taken seriously by cafe-goers who observe and await this drunken speech, through this passage, readers derive a further understanding of his attitudes towa rd both life and the nature of his very being, encapsulating a theme Barnes is working to affirm—a notion of tragic permanence by what you are and how it is bestowed upon you, all if not accepted, becoming the source of one’s own demise. The ducks, symbolically representing the Doctor’s predicament, are trapped in a struggle of reaching their true nature. Instead of migrating, as he argues, they have been permanently bound to the park, in which what has been given to them—food, a necessity— serves as their bindings. Having become unnaturally plumper than they should, they have been made no longer able to fly as their instincts tell them to, thanks to the interference of those that believe they are doing good. The Doctor in a similar nature, is aware and obsessed with his state of permanence, and questions God as to what is true and permanent of him as seen in an earlier passage of â€Å"Go Down, Matthew†Ã¢â‚¬â€the male body given to him, or the true female identity he knows himself to be. He is found in a continuous state of longing to be the opposite of what he has been made to be all throughout the novel, observed for example through his constant cross-dressing. The conclusion of the ch apter, brings along the conclusion of the Doctor, who in frustration with himself and the plights of others, screams out that he has â€Å"lived his life for nothing, [and has] told it for nothing,† (165) while arriving at a tragic end in which there will be â€Å"nothing, but wrath and weeping,† (166), further cementing his permanence in the type of life he wishes not to lead. This entanglement of permanence is further observed in the case of Baron Felix, born a Jew, a person of lowered status in the current society, yet impersonating aristocracy. Similar to the ducks of Golden Gate park, Felix is trapped in the permanence of who he is, based on a factor out of his control—his birth. However, in his case, Felix is concerned with not only erasing the permanence of his own familial history, but also with establishing a new permanence of the type of person he wishes to be and the type of family he wishes to create, as seen in his desire to create a lasting lineage through Robin Vote, and his discussion with the doctor concerning â€Å"history versus legend.† The irony within this lesson for Felix of â€Å"history versus legend,† lies within the doctor’s own preaching of it. While the Doctor preaches to become legend, little do his peers know of the ending that is to come—his giving in to the permanence of his very being—essentially, giving in to ‘history’. Felix’s ending, much like the Doctor’s, brings about yet another establishment of the permanence of who he truly is, bowing down to aristocracy, itself. While the characters in the novel exhibit a failure through this notion of tragic permanence, Robin, on the other hand, is essentially the embodiment of the total opposite. Through Robin, readers observe a total change: her fleeting nature and evolving personality. An enigmatic and puzzling character, Robin’s thoughts and motives are never quite fully understood by characters. Robin’s impermanence throughout the novel begins with her turning down of a classic family life with Felix and Guido, their first and only child. Following that initial chapter, she leaves with Nora in the next stating â€Å"I don’t want to be here,† (55), but another understanding of Robin’s fleeting nature. By the end of the novel, we find Robin has left Nora to be with Jenny, then comes back to Nora in confusion, desperation, and regret. However, with Robin, in peculiar irony, we still observe signs of her entrapment, through her choosing-to-leave nature—her dissatisfaction in whatever predicament she finds herself in leading readers to believe her nature is caused by the very fear of permanence, or settling down. In the chapter, â€Å"Go Down, Matthew,† we observe Nora’s telling of Robin’s nature: â€Å"Sometimes if she got tight by evening, I would find her standing in the middle of the room in boy’s clothes, rocking from foot to foot, holding the doll she had given us high above her head, as if she would cast it down†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (147). This passage leads readers to believe, like the ducks in the park, Robin is concerned with the permanent nature of her being—a woman in a man’s body—and quite possibly, another sign of her longing to retreat back to the days of her youth hindered by the permanence of the present. The character infamous for her sense of impermanence being the most weighed down by the permanence of herself.

Freezing Rain Definition

While beautiful to look at, freezing rain is one of the most hazardous types of winter precipitation. Accumulations of just several tenths of an inch of freezing rain may not sound significant, but are more than enough to break tree limbs, down power lines (and cause power outages), and coat and cause slick roadways. The Midwest often gets devastating storms of this nature. Rain that Freezes On Contact Freezing rain is a bit of a contradiction. The freezing part of its name implies frozen (solid) precipitation, but the rain implies its a liquid. So, which is it? Well, its kind of both. Freezing rain happens when precipitation falls as liquid raindrops, then freezes as it hits individual objects on the ground whose temperatures are below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. The ice that results is called glaze ice because it covers the objects in a smooth coating. This happens in winter whenever temperatures at ground-level are below freezing but the layer of air overhead is warm at mid- and high levels of the atmosphere. So it is the temperature of objects at the earths surface, not the rain itself, that determines if the precipitation will freeze. Its important to note that freezing rain is in liquid form until it strikes a cold surface. Oftentimes, the water droplets are supercooled (their temperature is below freezing, yet they remain liquid) and freeze on contact. How Fast Freezing Rain Freezes While we say that freezing rain freezes on impact when it strikes a surface, in reality, it takes a little time for the water to turn to ice. (How long depends on the temperature of the water drop, the temperature of the object the drop strikes, and the size of the drop. The quickest drops to freeze will be small, supercooled drops that hit objects whose temperatures are well below 32 degrees.) Because freezing rain doesnt necessarily freeze right away, icicles and dripping icicles will sometimes develop.   Freezing Rain vs. Sleet Freezing rain and sleet are similar in a lot of ways. They both start out high in the atmosphere as snow, then melt as they fall into a warm (above freezing) layer of air. But while the partially melted snowflakes that eventually turn into sleet will fall through a brief warm layer, then re-enter a deep enough cold layer to turn back into ice (sleet), in a freezing rain setup, the melted snowflakes dont have enough time to freeze (into sleet) before reaching the ground since the layer of cold air is too thin.  Ã‚   Sleet not only differs from freezing rain in how it forms, but what it looks like. Whereas sleet appears as tiny clear ice pellets that bounce when they hit the ground, freezing rain coats the surfaces it strikes with a layer of smooth ice.   Why doesnt it just snow? In order to get snow, temperatures throughout the atmosphere would need to remain below-freezing with no warm layer to be found. Remember, if you want to know the type of precipitation youll get at the surface in wintertime, youll want to look at what the temperatures are (and how theyre changing) from high up in the atmosphere all the way down to the surface. Heres the bottom line: Snow forms if the entire layer of air -- aloft and near the ground -- is sub-freezing.Sleet forms if the layer of sub-freezing air is fairly deep (approx. 3,000 to 4,000 feet thick).Freezing rain forms if the sub-freezing layer is very shallow, with cold temperatures at the surface only.Rain forms if the cold layer is too shallow.

How to Teach the Present Continuous to ESL Students

Disclaimer: This article is designed mainly for teachers planning a lesson on present continuous. For a more comprehensive explanation and detailed usage of the form, please access Learn How to Use Present Continuous. Teaching the present continuous usually takes place after the present, past, and future simple forms have been introduced. However, many books and curricula choose to introduce the present continuous immediately after the  present simple. This order can sometimes be confusing, as students may have difficulties understanding the subtlety of something that happens as a routine (as expressed by present simple) and an  action that takes place at the moment of speaking (as expressed by present continuous). No matter when you introduce this tense,  its important to provide as much context as possible by using appropriate time expressions, such as now, at the moment, currently, etc.   How to Introduce the Present Continuous Start by Modeling the Present Continuous Begin teaching the present continuous by speaking about what is happening in the classroom at the moment of introduction. Once students recognize  this usage, you can extend it to other things you know are happening now. This can include simple facts such as: The sun is shining at the moment. Were learning English at the moment. Make sure to mix it up by using a number of different subjects: Im teaching the present continuous right now.My wife is working in her office at the moment. Those boys are playing tennis over there. Ask Questions about Pictures Choose a magazine or web page with lots of activity, and ask students questions based on the pictures. What are they doing now? What is she holding in her hand?Which sport are they playing? Introduce the Negative Form To teach the negative form, use the magazine or web pages to ask yes or no questions focusing on eliciting a negative response. You may want to model a few examples before asking students. Is she playing tennis? - No, she isnt playing tennis. Shes playing golf.Is he wearing shoes? - No, hes wearing boots. Are they eating lunch? Is she driving a car? Once students have practiced a few rounds of questions, distribute magazines or other pictures around the classroom and ask students to grill each other on what is happening at the moment. How to Practice the Present Continuous Explaining the Present Continuous on the Board Use a present continuous timeline to illustrate the fact that the present continuous is used to express what is happening at the moment. If you feel comfortable with  the level of the class, introduce the idea that the present continuous can be used to speak about what is happening not only at the very moment but around the wider present (tomorrow, Sunday, etc.). Its a good idea at this point to contrast the present continuous auxiliary verb to be with other auxiliary verbs, pointing out that ing must be added to the verb in the present continuous form (subject be (am, is, are) verb(ing)). Comprehension Activities Comprehension activities such as describing what is happening in the photos in magazines or practicing with dialogue will help students solidify their understanding of the present continuous. In addition, present continuous worksheets will help tie in the form with appropriate time expressions, and review quizzes contrasting present simple with the present continuous might be very helpful as well. Continued Activity Practice Its a good idea to compare and contrast the present continuous with the present simple form once students have understood the difference. Also, using the present continuous for other purposes such as discussing present projects at work or speaking about future scheduled meetings will help students become familiar with the other uses of the present continuous form. Challenges with the Present Continuous The greatest challenge with present continuous is understanding the difference between a routine action (present simple) and an activity occurring at the moment. Its quite common for students to use the present continuous to speak about daily habits once theyve learned the form, so comparing the two forms early on will help students understand the differences and avoid potential mistakes. The use of the present continuous to express  future scheduled events  is best left for intermediate level classes.  Finally, students might also have difficulties understanding that stative verbs may not be used with continuous forms. Present Continuous Lesson Plan Example Greet the class and talk about what is happening at the moment in class. Make sure to pepper your sentences with appropriate time expressions such as at the moment and now.Ask students what they are doing at the moment to help them begin using the form. At this point in the lesson, keep things simple by not diving into the grammar. Try to get students to provide correct answers in a relaxed conversational manner.Use a magazine or find pictures online and discuss what is happening in the picture.  As you discuss what the people are doing in the photos, begin to differentiate by asking questions with you and we.  At the end of this discussion, write up a few example sentences on the whiteboard. Make sure to use different subjects and ask students to identify the differences between each sentence or question.  Point out that the helping verb be changes, but note that the main verb (playing, eating, watching, etc.) remains the same.Begin contrasting the present continuous with the present simple by alternating questions. For example:  What is your friend doing at the moment?  and  Where does your friend live?  Get student input on the differences between the two forms. Help students understand as necessary. Make sure to point out the differences in time expression and use between the two forms.  Ask students to write out 10 questions, five with the present continuous and five with the present simple. Move around the room helping students with any difficulties.  Have students interview each other using the 10 questions.  For homework, ask students to write a short paragraph contrasting what a friend or family member does every day and what they are doing at the moment. Model a few sentences on the board so that students clearly understand the homework assignment.

In 1918, Harley Davidson had become the largest motorcycle producing company in the world. Their production totaled 28,000 motorcycles. Production continued to increase with the onset of World War II and the military use of Harley’s motorcycles. The mystique of the product had a tough sense to it with famous actors such as James Dean and Marlin Brando sporting the bikes. Industrial Policy free essay sample

A discussion on the industrial policy in the U.S. and the effect of governmental involvement on its economy. This paper discusses the effect the industrial policy in the US has on its economy. The writer debates whether governmental involvement in the industrial policy is necessary and beneficial to the economy. The writer recognizes governments need to redirect resources to research and development of new technologies and regulate industries such as telecommunications and aviation. Industry in United States has always had a funny feeling about industrial policy, yet it has been in some of the most comprehensive growth industries in the market. The US is currently in the process of rolling back this policy, whose main target was specific sectors with regard to infrastructure, whether they are telecommunications or utilities. However, due to the explosion of the information age, the United States Government felt the need to redirect these resources, and the result, so far, has been Advanced Technology Program (ATP) under the direction and control of Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Song and A Birthday Essay Example For Students

Song and A Birthday Essay Song Song written by Alfred, Lord Tennyson consists of a simple structure of a quatrain, three couplets and finishes with another quatrain. It has a similar form to a sonnet but does not quite fit the same description. By using this simple structure he shows that his love is not normal but special and has a different form to any other love. It also shows a symmetrical structure, which is illustrating the equal love between him and his lover. There is no rhyming scheme, to again draw attention to the fact that this is not an ordinary sonnet for an ordinary love and there is no obvious pattern. The poem is divided up into images. The first verse makes reference to red and white; Now sleeps the crimson petal, now the white. These two colours are significant throughout the entire poem as red symbolises love and passion and white means purity. Both these colours relate to his lover and the feelings he has for her. The references to nature are repeated as Tennyson creates the image of an exaggerated surrounding of richness luxury with adjectives such as; gold and porphyry and at the same time the romanticism of all the words put together in the context of the verse. The porphyry font is highly decorative and by saying there is a gold fin in it, it suggests richness and the font is a symbol of purity. The royal and expensive image this creates is symbolic of his enriched and powerful love. Still creating image, in the second verse, he explains that she leans on him and like a ghost she glimmers on to me and compares it to the milkwhite peacock drooping like a ghost. This suggests that she is white in appearance and that relays back to the reference of white meaning purity. The word glimmer also suggests that she shines and twinkles and radiates love. The Earth all Danae to the stars means that the earth is exposed to the stars. He uses this to compare to her by explaining that her heart is exposed to him all they heart lies open to me. Using the Earth and the stars as and example he shows the scale of his love and how much of it there is. He is also connecting her with light because she shines and reflects love. In the last of the couplets, Tennyson uses more comparison; with the silent meteor leaving a shining furrow to his thoughts as thy thoughts in me. The meteor is a shooting star leaving a ray of light behind it. This connects to her thoughts running through his brain, as he obviously knows her so well, he knows what she is thinking. By using the word thy and thou he his connecting with her as it is a more personal form of the word you. He again connects her continually to the light: shining furrow. The final verse compares her with a lily, now folds the lily all her sweetness up. As the lily folds its white leaves and goes underwater; and slips into the bosom of the lake. She relates to this as she curls herself up and leans onto him in an embrace: so fold thyself and slip into my bosom and be lost in me. The repetition of the word me is continuos throughout the poem as at the end of every verse he uses the word. This is to show that she is all his and the significance of having it at the end of the verse is to illustrate it a symbolic barrier or full stop. The rhyme scheme, abcbdccc, is simple and straightforward to compare with a simple love and her straightforward feelings. The similes in this poem are very simple so they give over the effect of a simple structure and overall effect. However the language is complex, so this creates a contrast and shows that the emotion love is simple, but the feeling of it is complicated and overwhelming. Imagery is used throughout the poem to create an overall effect. For example the title A Birthday is metaphorical, as it is not really her birthday but as she is so overwhelmingly happy about her lover. He is like the best present she could ever receive so it feels as thought it is her birthday. She uses examples of natural thing to illustrate that her love is completely natural and from the heart; my heart is like an apple tree. All the fruit and natural images and references she makes create an over decorative effect. She is happy and to her the world seems in full bloom and beautifully exaggerated and colourful. An example to illustrate the scale of her love is in: like a rainbow shell that paddles in a halcyon sea the sea is massive but a shell is small, if the shell is rainbow coloured then it would radiate colour and light in a idyllically calm and peaceful sea lightening it up. Like her love and happiness shines and radiates her in and ordinary world. Or on a smaller scale, her heart inside her experiencing such ecstatic emotion. In the final verse she uses the image of all things royal, exotic, natural, expensive and beautiful carve it in doves, and pomegranates like her love. The throne she would like to create is a symbol of her love. The finishing line is: the birthday of my life is come, my love has come to me. She uses birthday to illustrate that she is reborn because she has fallen in love.

George Eliots Slias Marner a book review Essay Example

George Eliots Slias Marner: a book review Essay Nyle Isaac Arcayan HS4-6 George Eliots Silas Marner It is hard to imagine the kind of pain and betrayal felt by Silas Marner in George Eliots most memorable classic novel, Silas Marner. The story is set in the early 1900s, during the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. It recounts the life of Silas Marner, a weaver by trade who was accused of theft by his closest friend, William Dane, and excommunicated by the Calvinist congregation he once Joined. Betrayed and abandoned, the embittered Silas moves to Raveloe, a village on the verge of industrialization, and isolates himself, becomes a miser and recluse, his only source f security being in his hoard of money. However, even his prized gold is taken away from him by Dunstan Cass and replaced by a little girl named Eppie, the neglected child of Godfrey Cass. Without others to turn to, Silas and Eppie find solace in one another. And for sixteen years, despite grave revelations of Eppies origins and threats for their separation, they persist together as a family and Silas is reminded once again of the redemptive power of love. The first half of the book reflects upon the themes of materialism and greed; this is often reflected in the lives and actions of Silas, Godfrey, and Dunstan. Ever since his arrival in Raveloe, Silas has been shutting people out of his life. Without any friends and confidants, Silas finds security in his hoard of gold. This carnal love for money becomes a detriment to Silass life and impairment to his well-being; the gold unfortunately becomes his primary source of depression and loneliness. In the ituation of the Cass family, greed and pride reign over the family household. Dunstan, the brash abrasive brother, frequently chooses to do things his own way, showing sheer contempt for authority while doing so. His unethical Judgment and obstinate nature always instigate dire consequences, often at the expense of others. Dunstans theft of Silass money not only impairs Silass lifestyle, but also weakens the bonds in his family. His unscrupulous act of theft even lead to his own, unforeseen death. Godfrey, on the other hand, is a man cursed with his past. He regrets ever marrying the drug-addicted Molly, becoming the father of Eppie. His desperation to move on to what he believes to be a better life causes him to make various detestable, selfish decisions in the story. The corruption and avarice evident in the Cass family perfectly expresses the destructive nature of greed and selfishness; however, they too experience loss and grief. Such as the case is with the Casss, the misery they undergo often comes as a consequence or reprisal for their actions. The second half of the book takes a lighter tone as themes and events in the story renect tne Teellngs 0T love ana nope, Teellngs tnat tne cn110 Epple symoollzes. Epples nexpected entrance into Silass life becomes the first major emotional turning point in the story. When Eppie stumbles into the home of the linen weaver, he immediately feels a strong obligation to keep her as his own, stating that, Its (Eppie) come to me IVe a right to keep it. They live together under the same roof, depending in each other as father and daughter. Slowly but surely, both of their lives gradually become brighter and happier as the days pass by and they grow together as a family. Silas, through the influence of Eppie, finally learns to open himself to the world he once hid from. Furthermore, Silass cataleptic fits, once a symbol of his afflictions and misfortunes, no longer become a detriment to his life. Finally, Silas learns to live his life with a new air, a purpose, and a reason now, he has a family. However, the situation of the Cass family is quite the opposite. Godfrey, though now married to Nancy, has become the last survivor of the Cass lineage, and although he previously disowned his own daughter sixteen years ago, Godfrey, childless and without heir, now seeks reconciliation with Eppie and Silas. Godfrey personally undergoes great levels of guilt and loneliness. These feelings, as he believes, have become the reprisals he deserves after abandoning his previous family for so long. Cass familys misfortunes as well as Silass new-found Joy near the end of the book become the core of the theme of retribution; the novel develops these things like a form of poetic justice, giving resolution and Justification in the end. The characters in Silas Marner are all very vivid as well as descriptive, giving the story a unique literary feel not found in other books. As usually the case in other books, the characters and their respective conflicts may become somewhat buoyant, isconnected, and mismatched. Oftentimes these characters blindly react to the events happening around them, resulting in highly predictable or mechanical personalities. But George Eliots characters incredibly believable and human. All the characters in Silas Marner behave and adapt differently to the situations thrown at them, showing George Eliots true creative mastery. However, many readers may find the book rather hard to swallow, as the story tends to drag along in some sections of the novel. Other readers may find some difficulty in comprehending the rural dialect sed by the people of Raveloe, as was the case with my first run through with the book. But otherwise, none of these affect the overall artistry achieved by George Eliot. George Eliots amazing proficiency in creating a rich story abundant with themes and morals only further emphasizes the concepts of love and family togetherness in a world drawn by materialism. Silas Marner might as well be one of the most inspirational books I have ever read. It presents an amazing story full of hope, humor, and light-heartedness a classic tale that will surely last for many generations to come.

Research Paper Topics For Hospitality Technology

Research Paper Topics For Hospitality TechnologyResearch paper topics for hospitality technology often have very broad focus, but in reality they are really quite small in scope. It is important to know where to start your paper topic exploration as well as how you will progress along the project. One of the basic research methods that can be used to find the right paper topic would be by doing some basic research using basic research methods, as opposed to trying to study the topic from a distance, or that would involve an exhaustive and detailed research. One of the key aspects of hospitality technology that must be discussed and included in the research paper topics is how you will determine the topic. The first step in researching these research paper topics should be to decide upon a topic. You can decide to do it based on your current work, previous field experience or for the needs of your business. An example of a hospitality service job would be general duties and responsibili ties as well as projects that would be part of the job.The second step in researching the research paper topics is defining the process. This could either be called process, as the actual research itself, or method, which is a general term used for many things. In other words, what tools and methodology you will use to carry out the research. The third step in researching research paper topics is that of research design. You need to ask yourself some key questions before putting together your research plan. Will the goals of the project be accomplished in a realistic time frame? Are the goals focused on practical guidelines and practical results? What problems are being solved and what solutions will be the most beneficial to the customers or clients? And lastly, will the research reflect the aspirations for the company as a whole, or just its stakeholders? These are all areas that will be covered in your research plans and will determine the way in which you would progress through the project.

3 More Types of Hyphenation Errors with Numbers

3 More Types of Hyphenation Errors with Numbers 3 More Types of Hyphenation Errors with Numbers 3 More Types of Hyphenation Errors with Numbers By Mark Nichol These three sentences exemplify incorrect insertion or omission of hyphens in numerical references. Each sentence is accompanied by a discussion and a revision. 1. The two albums have sold close to 30-million copies combined worldwide. The combination of a numeral and a word expressing an order of magnitude is never hyphenated; the usage, a simplified version of the cluttered-looking numerical representation 3,000,000, is not a phrasal adjective: â€Å"The two albums have sold close to 30 million copies combined worldwide.† (This is true even when the number is a phrasal adjective: â€Å"The 30 million figure is unprecedented,† though it is better to relax such a statement to read, â€Å"The figure of 30 million is unprecedented.†) â€Å"The 30-million-dollar figure is unprecedented.† In such usage, the number is often spelled out: â€Å"The two albums have sold close to thirty million copies combined worldwide.† No hyphen is required in this case, either (â€Å"The thirty million figure is unprecedented†), though, again, it reads better in a more relaxed state (â€Å"The figure of thirty million is unprecedented†). When yet another word is included to form a phrasal adjective, however, whether the number is in numeral form or spelled out, hyphenate all three elements: â€Å"The 30-million-dollar figure is unprecedented†; â€Å"The thirty-million-dollar figure is unprecedented.† 2. These phases are often subdivided into 30, 60, and 90-day segments to manage specific milestones with greater precision. This sentence refers to segments of 30, 60, and 90 days’ duration, but the word day in the phrasal adjectives â€Å"30-day† and â€Å"60-day† has been elided because the use of the word in â€Å"90-day† makes it clear that the unit of time is implied for all three numbers. However, when this technique, called suspensive hyphenation, is employed, the hyphen must be retained after all three figures: â€Å"These phases are often subdivided into 30-, 60-, and 90-day segments to manage specific milestones with greater precision.† 3. We anticipate that significant unplanned outages of the network will occur approximately five-ten times a year. If the numbers in this sentence were treated as numerals, the correct style would be â€Å"5–10 times a year,† but an en dash should not be used in a number range when the numbers are spelled out (nor should a hyphen, which, as here, is often used erroneously in place of the dash): â€Å"We anticipate that significant unplanned outages of the network will occur approximately five to ten times a year.† (Some publications deliberately use hyphens in number ranges because a hyphen takes only a single keystroke to type.)
